The following changes are included in the Eighth edition of the Technical Design Guideline:
DIVISION 27
1. Page 248, Communications, replace division in its entirety, as shown.
2. Page 248, add new item C after item B, and present item C becomes D, and
so on.
3. Page 250, item I, 2, add items a thru d.
4. Page 255, change item T to read “Security Surveillance System (Appendix
B, section 27 40 00, pages 81-85).
DIVISION 28
1. Page 265, Section 1.07, remove contents and state “Refer to Appendix B,
section 27 40 00, pages 81-85”
APPENDIX B COMMUNICATIONS - SAMPLE SPECIFICATIONS
1. Page 4, remove “26 OFOI Owner Furnished Owner Installed” from the list.
2. Page 4, add line item “C Definitions” under section 1.03 References.
3. Page 5, remove items 3 g, h, and I (line item g becomes old line item j); and item 4 in its entirety
(item 4 becomes old line item 5 and so on).
4. Page 5, section 1.05, item 2b, revise to read as follows: “Four 4” conduits with POLYETHYLENE
TUBING or textile mesh innerduct for all Outside Plant (OSP) pathway greater than 2” diameter.
TCCD’s preferred choice is 2” polyethylene pathway. Please coordinate with TCCD’s OneIT
Department.”
5. Page 6, section 1.04, add “MER” to items 5a and 5b.
6. Page 7, section 1.05, F, remove item 5 in its entirety, item 6 now becomes item 5. Add “a.
Exception: Sprinklers may be installed in telecom rooms as required by NFPA Code. Sprinkler
heads must be caged.” To existing item 10. Also, add “MER to item D 6, F 4 and F 6.
7. Page 8, section 1.05, add “MER” to item F 7, F 8, F9, F10, and F 11.
8. Page 8, section 1.05, item F, insert item 15 to read “Security camera to be installed in all
MER/ER/TR rooms overlooking the rack and patch panels”
9. Page 8, item F, add “MER” to item 17, 17c, 17d, and 17e. Change “MER” to “ER” at the end of
paragraph 17e and in paragraph 17f.

10. Page 8, section 1.05, G, change item 1 to read as follows “Fiber backbone: Provide one 24 strand
Single Mode Fiber and one 12 strand Multi-mode OM4 Fiber in one pathway and one 6 strand
Single Mode and 6 strand OM4 Multi-mode Fiber in separate pathway; Pathway diversity is required
for the Fire Alarm signal transmission. Fiber optic cabling not in conduit or armored must be
installed in properly rated innerduct.”.
11. Page 9, section 1.05 H, change “MER” to “ER” and remove “and Telecom Rooms”.
12. Page 9, section 1.05, H, eliminate item 2 in its entirety. Paragraph 3 becomes paragraph 2.
13. Page 9, item I, 1 and 2, add “MER”.
14. Page 9, section 1.05, I, 3, change “MER” to “ER”.
15. Page 10, section 1.05, J, eliminate item 2 in its entirety.
16. Page 10, section J, 3, add “MER”.
17. Page 10, section 1.05, K, add to item 1 “Contractor will coordinate quantity, length, and color with
TCCD OneIT department before ordering”.
18. Page 10, remove items L and M in their entirety. Items N and O will now remain as new items L and
M and so on.
19. Page 12, section 1.06, item I and J, add “current” and “and email address” to the last sentence of
the paragraph.
20. Page 14, section 1.10, item B, 3, add “current” and “email address” to the last sentence of the
paragraph.
21. Page 17, section 2.03, item D, 3, add “always” and remove “at all times” in the last sentence of the
paragraph.
22. Page 18, section 3.01, item B, 1, remove “his or her” and replace with “their”.
23. Page 18, section 3.02, move item E to item A. Also, remove “in the event that” and replace with “if”
in paragraph D.
24. Page 19, section 3.03, A, , 2, add “snacks” inside the parenthesis.
25. Page 22, section 27 05 26, remove section 1.03 DEFINITIONS in its entirety.
26. Page 26, section 1.02, G, add “MER/”.
27. Page 27, section 1.02, add “MER/” to items L 2, and M.
28. Page 28, section 2.02, A, add “J-hooks should not be used to support more than 20 cables”.
29. Page 39, section 1.04, F, add “ER”.
30. Page 44, section 1.02, add “MER/” to items D, E, F, I, and add “ER/” to items G,, H, L, M, and N.
31. Page 46, section 2.01, D, remove “come in contact with” and replace with “encounter”.

33. Page 51, section 1.05, C, remove “Backbone”.

36. Page 53, eliminate section 2.01 Copper Cable in its entirety. Protector Panels becomes new section
2.01.
37. Page 53, section 2.03, A, revise items 1 thru 10 as shown.
38. Page 58, section 2.02 A, change model number to “7131900”. Also, add line item B to read
“Category 6 Plenum Rated CMP (Color Yellow) General Cable – GENSPEED 6000 Product #
7131942” and line item C to read “Category 6A Plenum rated CMP (color violet or blue for wireless
access points General cable – GENSPPED 10G Product # 7141825”.
39. Page 58, section 2.04, add item B to read “For wireless access points Category 6A modular jack
inserts: Data (violet) Panduit – Product number # CJ6X88TGVL”.
40. Page 60, section 3.01, F, add to item 8 “Category 6 Plenum Rated CMP (Color: Blue). General Cable
